Introduction
Stress can be hard on both your body and mind. We all have days which can be more stressful and challenging than others.
Too many of these days can take it’s toll.
Worse still, you begin to think it’s normal to be in this state of “high alert” constantly.
If you’re struggling...
Try one or more of the strategies to help eliminate stress.
1. Take a Deep Breath
Nice and simple to start!
Breathe in for five seconds and then hold that breath for five seconds more
Next, exhale for five seconds.
Repeat this process 10 times and focus only on your breathing.
Don’t over do it – your breaths should only be a little larger in volume than your usual, relaxed breaths.
2. Enjoy a Walk
Get out into the fresh air and practice the breathing technique we talked about previously.
Keep your mind clear.
Pay attention to your surroundings and try to notice the little things.
This will help prevent your mind drifting to negative, stressful thoughts.
3. Exercise
Work out your stress with a swim, run or a visit to the gym.
Any type of exercise is recommended here.
It needs to be intense, makes you work up a sweat and leaves your satisfyingly tired at the end.
Fit exercise around your other commitments during the day – a morning or evening session is equally beneficial
.
4. Sit Outside
The second time getting out into the fresh air has been mentioned and with good reason:
Some time at your favourite park or beach can help relieve even the most stressful day.
Like going for a walk, pay attention to what’s going on around you.
People watch.
This focus will help keep your mind off your challenges...
Even if it’s only for a few minutes.
5. Take the Day Off
If everything is getting too much... Then you need some “me time”.
If you book the day off work, make sure you don’t just waste it moping around, thinking about your situation.
Do something you enjoy...
And lose yourself in the moment.
6. Read
Reading, fiction especially, is a great way to relieve stress.
Check out the best seller lists to see if anything new takes your fancy.
Or, those books on your shelf which you haven’t got around to reading yet...
Now is a great time to do so!
7. Listen to Music
Music can transport you back to simpler, happier times.
So, crank out your favourite tunes and feel the stresses and challenges of the day melt away!
Get up and dance if the mood takes you. Remember, nobody is watching anyway!
8. Disconnect
Sometimes we all need to unplug.
Switch off the phone, your laptop or any other devices which connects you to the outside world.
Only then can you truly relax.
9. Take a Nap
While unplugged, you can also take advantage of a refreshing nap.
It’s an opportunity to recharge... And start over when you wake up.
Anything pre-nap is in the past – now it’s time to move forward.
10. Have Some Fun
Spend time with people who are fun... Who make you laugh.
Meet up with friends or family for a meal or drink and let them pull you out of your own little world.
Spending time with other people can help you look at the challenges you’re facing through a fresh pair of eyes.
Summary
The key takeaway here is if you’re feeling stressed...
Do something to take your mind off it.
It’s easy to shrink away and become consumed with out own thoughts.
But, this does not help you feel better or solve the issues you are currently going through.
Make a conscious effort to relax...
So you’re better able to deal with your stresses and challenges once fully recharged.
