1. Choosing the wrong Affiliate Program:
Choosing the wrong affiliate program has been the reason for the failure of many affiliates.
The Internet is flooded with scams of one kind or the other and the hype is so powerful that many Newbies swallow them hook, line and sinker and join these scams.
One of the best ways of knowing if that is the kind of program you wish to promote is if you are interested in purchasing the product yourself.
If that is the case, chances are, there are many others who are also interested in the same program and products.
For instance, look for one that is associated with many experts in that particular industry.
This way, you are assured that of the standard of the program you will be joining into.
Why participate in an affiliate program?
It allows you to work part-time.
It gives you the opportunity to build a generous residual income.
And it makes you an owner of a small business.
Affiliate programs have already created lots of millionaires.
They are the living testimony of how hard work; continuous prospecting, motivating and training others pay off.
2. Joining too many Affiliate Programs initially:
Handling too many affiliate programs at the beginning can be very difficult and stressful especially if you do not possess prior experience.
This can lead to failure and disappointment.
It is possible to promote several programs but it is advisable to have one main affiliate program where you should direct all your energy and expertise in promoting it.
3. No set Goal:
Most new entrepreneurs do not have a goal.
They do things in a slip shod manner hoping to make money in a short time.
This attitude will never bring success.
There has got to be a goal and a plan to achieve it, preferably a short term and a long term plan.
4. Not prepared to Invest in Time and Knowledge:
Many people become affiliates with the hope of raking in huge amounts of money.
There is nothing wrong with that but the irony is that they are not prepared to spend some time learning about affiliate marketing and improving their knowledge, which are basic requirements that ensure success.
5. Insufficient Advertisement and Promotion:
The success of an affiliate marketer is to a great extent dependant on how well your products and services are made known to the public and the Internet world.
Similarly the cause of failure of most of the affiliates is due to insufficient and inefficient promotional strategies.
There are many free and low cost ways of advertising and promoting your Home Business, yet the fact remains that you have to spend money to make money.
6. Ignorance and Negligence of Website Promotion:
Website promotion is one of the cheapest and best ways of promoting your products and services.
Just having banners and links to your products is not going to bring the traffic you need to succeed.
Ignorance or negligence of promotional strategies is another reason for failure.
You should have unique, fresh and relevant content to attract the Search Engines and visitors to your website.
7. Giving up Too Soon:
Some affiliates give up after a month or two, having realized that they cannot make thousands of dollars overnight as indicated in some scams.
On the other hand there are affiliates who have genuinely made every effort to succeed but decide to give up just when their hard work is beginning to bear fruit.
Unfortunately this is the sad story of many affiliates who have decided to consider themselves as failures and throw in the towel when a little more time and effort would have yielded rich dividends.
Balancing Personal and Professional Life
Work can often get in the way of the things you want to do in life.
In fact, it is only when people retire that they are can do what they have always wanted to do, but never had the luxury of time and money.
If you are one with a top rank in your company, it is unlikely that you have enough time to spend with your kids, your wife, and yourself.
However, everything will change when you go into online business.
Because work can be done through the Internet, you can easily work from home without having to wake up so early to prepare, eat, dress up, and travel to the office.
You do not have to worry about being caught in heavy traffic because you will not ever have to if you stay at home.
Thus, your online business will give you more time to take care of yourself, get a good night’s rest and take your time.
You can even manage your time whichever way you want it to. Just so long as you are able to commit to deadlines and submit your work on time, you can have the luxury of time to spend for other more important things like self and family.
While you might think that your online business will not be able to generate as much income as your day job would, think again.
You can still earn as much depending on how much time you spend in work.
You may also be able to get a provider that offers to pay higher rates for your services especially if they find you reliable and a provider of good quality services.
Now, your wife or husband does not have to nag you so much or quarrel you about not being able to spend time with him or her.
Your kids will never have to get mad at you for not playing with them.
If you are single, you can spend more time with your partner, you’r friends, or yourself and do anything you want to do.
Final Thoughts
Affiliate marketing does present the opportunity to make lots of money.
And once you get started with it, you can maintain that income without a huge amount of effort.
But finding a niche, selecting affiliate programs and doing what it takes to effectively promote the products takes some time and effort.
When those who are looking for a free ride discover this, they are ready to throw in the towel.
But if you’re serious about making money as an affiliate, you can generate great wealth.
Those gurus that are making so much really aren’t much different from the average Internet user.
They just had the determination they needed to seek out great affiliate opportunities and work on their promotional efforts until they got it right.
We can learn a lot from their experience, but we still have to do our part to find what it takes to make it in a given niche.
You don’t necessarily have to make affiliate marketing a full-time pursuit in order to make big money.
But you must have patience, and you must be willing to work at it.
If you can use a computer, you can make a good living with affiliate marketing.
Do not let getting off to a slow start deter you.
